No Man Take Thy Crown

my existence
is like a raindrop
in a mass of billions
I’ll be gone in an instant
a projected image
from a burning star
With a ghostly fire in my heart
bound with the iron in my blood
beaming down on planet Earth
like revolutionists on battle horse
I’m pulling on reins
treading over saltless dirt
like the ocean’s thundering waves
the clouds roll overhead
beneath a crystal blue dome
as the sun’s rays
scatter on the forest floor
I spread my roots
and all my jewels
in the mystic light
where empires rise and collapse
with the same silhouettes
that have always been cast
waning and waxing
in the spirit of Mars
like the old moon
in the new moon’s arms
but I keep my course
non-serviam
refining and sealing my works
I’m paying my dues
holding onto my crown
and let no man take it away
