Descending Stars
Allegory of the Planets and Continents, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, 1752 Source, The Met Museum, Public Domain
I’ve seen stars descend
with the sound of gun metal scraping back
in a wave of heat rising from the concrete
I found my place within a circle
hidden from the beaten path of life
the projection of an image
in flourecent black light
I’m tired and traveled from a far distance
refracted in crystals
trapped and imprisoned
destined and well on my way to an abyss
I’m here for just a brief visit
like a meteorite burning toward Earth
I’m rumbling through my moment of existence
in the city and its streets where I dwell
I swore an oath with the lost
cursed myself with the mutual implications
to go through with our gangster deeds
and put fools up in smoke in times of retaliation
I feasted with the beast
and drank wine from the bottle
with the music from way back playing
black magic in the air
I felt the winds of the storm
and the pain before it began to rain
over us at the funeral home
and with it came the harvest moon
in the middle of the night where killers loom
I was spiritually drained
by the time the season was here
to give back what we took
like the days of Autumn
when the colorful leaves
in the golden sun
drift from the limbs of trees
we must reap what we sow
complete the cycle and deliver the soul
